The Best Lover

A film and installation by Ninni Korkalo. The Best Lover is filmed in five episodes, edited as montage of parallel events. It starts with a voice-over at the Therapist. Collective Mind  is mining data, trying to define self-love. The Therapist replies with a story, which takes us to a forest, set up on a dark theatre stage. There is Cupid, all focused on hunting the next victim of love.

Barbarella – The Queen of Galaxy follows the pray, as Cupid ends up wounding themself. The pains and pleasures of falling in self-love are illustrated with a montage of pink-toned nature scenes and Barbarella’s ardor.

The self-hunted Cupid wakes up, and dances for freedom. The final scene takes place in a forest with the Therapist’s voice teaching the words of confessing self-love.

Besides the half-an-hour short-film, The Best Lover is also produced to be exhibited as a 4-channel video installation in art gallery and museum spaces.
